Back for real, thanks to Nycteris!

Tue Aug 9, 2005, 11:27 PM
Mood: Excited but busy
Reading: Dan Simmons - Olympos
Watching: Back to the Future trilogy!!

:dance::w00t::bounce::w00t::dance:

So, =NycterisA is unbelievably cool and when I went off griping about how my computer died (hardware glitch, I no can fix! :() and I lost my opportunity to upload stuff and catch up while I had a free 1-week lucky winner subscription . . . . she got me a new one! :glomp:

So, anyway, I'm back, will try to stay back, have stuff ripped from my drive (long story, it involves discovering that I left the one crucial piece of interface hardware at school and brought everything else home, and then improvising with what I had and a few staples shaped into required parts. I got it working though!) which I may be able to upload soon, and a BUNCH of other stuff I haven't sorted yet, but which should yield some goodness. I hope.

I've been working through my devWatch stuff . . . I've covered 3 galleries so far tonight, leaving about 50 comments. I have about 30 to go, I'll try to get all that and all 30 journal responses done this week, mebbe even clear out everything. (156 new messages is a SCARY NUMBER!!)

All in all, very productive day, both at work (ooh, progress report to come, maybe) and here, and it is now 3:30AM, which means I == teh stupid. And the (other!) screwed-up computer I was trying to fix while browsing is still sitting behind me, about halfway through the long and so far fruitless process of repair I am attempting in the probably vain hope that this one only has driver issues instead of hardware. *sigh*

--Update 8/14/05--
Sorry to those whose galleries I've not yet reached, I've done over 100 comments and am well on my way to catching up, but there's a lot left, 'cause there are a bunch of people who I did not previously know had accounts here (Yay Catharsisites!), who have lovely huge galleries of joy and happiness. So I promise I'm still working on it. Also, I'll be shipping off my computer tomorrow if I don't forget again, so I should have it back soon-ish and be able to simultaneously be online and have access to my stuff, so I hope to finally put up a few more photos. With any luck, I'll build the gallery for my original gingerbread project, the hobbit hole, before I do my next, plans for which are as yet unfinalized. Also, I continue to have very productive days at the lab, which of course interfere with my less studious pursuits. But it makes me happy, so that's good! Right? Right? ^^;

Soooo . . . I'm Back . . .

Tue Apr 26, 2005, 10:37 PM
Yeah, so that "Brief 1-week Hiatus" kinda became a 2-week hiatus, and then kinda became a 3-week hiatus . . . sorry about that, folks. A whole lot of things got back-burnered these past few weeks, including some very important stuff (which then all came to a crunch this week). I should be back for a reasonable amount of time, or at the least a week, before craziness ensues again.

I have a startlingly large number of messages, which I will get through today if I can, and then I'll work on the backlog of stuff I want to comment on, and finally I'll try to get back to going through the galleries I'm currently working on. At some point I may even get new art up, although that comes after I update three of the sites I'm running. I'll also look into what I did to kill my gallery for all the people out there still using IE.

In good news, I'm pretty set for the summer and talking with the PI about specifics of my project, which should prove to be very engaging. And this weekend, my sister (whom I am trying desperately to convince to set up an account, so she can show off her AMAZING pictures from Italy) is visiting as part of the big Prefrosh Weekend, which I'm helping to organize. And both of the dance performances I was teching and editing/fixing/mixing/runnning sound for went well, and the directors were very happy with my work. Yayy!

UPDATE 04/27/05: Found a moment to look over the code and I fixed the gallery on my site so it works with IE again. Sorry 'bout that to anyone who couldn't access the Gingerbread Edoras gallery. Blame IE for being non-standards-compliant. :shakefist:

I'll try very hard to get some new deviations (some photos, I think) up this weekend . . . things are looking busy again, but I may have time to sort through some recent stuff I shot. Maybe I'll be able to convince my sister to get an account while she's up here. :plotting:

UPDATE 05/15/05: I hate the end-of-year crunch, I really do . . . my free weekend was entirely consumed by another show that asked me to sound design at the absolute last minute. It went real well, and the tech director at the Office for the Arts took notice (yayy!), but that killed the free time I had . . . I doubt I'll have time to get anything up before the end of exams, 'cause I have projects taking up all of my time before they start. Sorry guys.

Brief Hiatus

Sun Apr 3, 2005, 9:58 AM
GAH! I've been scrambling to get a lot of things done lately (like finding summer work . . . arrgh), and a couple major assignments have sneaked up on me. I have to do a large coding project by Wednesday and plan out a final paper by friday, in addition to my normal pack of problem sets. This would be painful but manageable were it not for my upcoming dance performance this weekend. Noooooo!

So, I'll be out for the next week, or barely here. If I don't respond to your comments, it's not because I hate you, it's because school hates me. :(

I'll come back and catch up on everything next weekend at the latest!

Sorry, all you wonderful people!

I want to take my shower back to college.

Tue Mar 29, 2005, 7:53 PM
I apparently do all my best thinking in the shower, but only my shower at home. Today, unbidden, ideas for not one but two dances came to me while I was showering, and one of them is even suitable for our upcoming show. Indeed, it is low on technical bits, unlike most of my choreography, and I should be able to do it with little trouble, despite the fact that I am in worse shape than I've ever been, and haven't really danced all year (arrrgh, lab courses!)

Now that I've posted that here, I have even more incentive to get off my sorry bum and actually *do* this. As soon as I get back, I'm hopping over to the pool theater to check out the space. Hopefully I'll have the sound mostly compiled by then (it's gonna take loads of editing, but that's one of the things I like to do . . . ), so I might even be able to give it a run through.

If only my search for a lab to work in this summer (and concurrently, for a thesis topic) were going that well. I thought I was so prepared, contacting three different programs and labs . . . but one never got back to me because the PI is doing a really neat international project that leaves him with no time whatsoever, and the others didn't pan out for other reasons. I do have one position available to me, but I can't really work it into anything thesis-related, and I really need to get on the ball with that . . .

Outside of some recent issues with relatives' health, though, life is pretty good, if absurdly busy. I don't have any really serious complaints, so that's nice.

I always leave something.

Sun Mar 27, 2005, 10:15 PM
Grah! I get back home for spirng break, having taken a bunch of pictures that I can't wait to go through . . . I think a few may even have turned out well . . . . and what have I forgotten to bring? That's right, my effing transfer cable!! GAH! So I won't be able to properly look at them until I get back to school, which means they won't get sorted, just as nothing I've taken this year has gotten sorted, because I don't have the time. *sigh*

In other news, my sister recently got back from a trip to Italy (with her Latin class), and I am trying very hard to get her to set up an account and post some of the photos she took . . . they're gorgeous, expecially a few of the venice ones . . . She broke her camera on the last night, which was good timing, if she had to break it, but aargh.

I really wanted to go on that trip, but *sigh* I had midterms and papers and stuff that week and the next, which would have been hellish to miss.

. . . Yay for writing journal entries that no one will read!
